In Loving Memory of Bill Moyes (1932 - 2024)
Hang gliding icon Bill Moyes left us yesterday at his home in Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Bill wasn’t just a name in the hang gliding community; he was an icon and a pioneer, often referred to as one of the fathers of modern hang gliding. His legacy is woven into the very fabric of the sport he cherished.
In 1972, Bill founded Moyes Delta Gliders, changing the game for pilots around the world. His innovation and passion for flight inspired countless enthusiasts to soar through the skies. From local hills to international competitions, Bill’s influence reached far and wide, and he touched the lives of hang glider pilots everywhere. In recognition of his contributions, Bill received the prestigious FAI Gold Air Medal in 2014, a testament to his impact on aviation.
Beyond the gliders and the competitions, Bill was a mentor and friend to so many. His laughter and zest for life will be missed as much as his remarkable contributions to aviation. As we remember him, let’s celebrate the flights he inspired and the joy he brought to so many.
Fly high, Bill. You will forever be in our hearts and the skies!
