Sick or injured: make sure you FLY CLEAN

The FAI Anti-Doping Webinar "Sick or injured: make sure you FLY CLEAN" took place on 2 April 2025. It explored how injuries and illness can impact doping risks.

Many air sports athletes and pilots will experience injury or illness during their careers. However, few are aware of the doping risks from medication and treatments. The FAI is committed to maintaining a clean sport culture by equipping athletes, coaches, clubs, and members with the knowledge needed to uphold clean sport values—even when dealing with injuries or illness.

Hosted by the FAI alongside Anti-Doping Experts Jacques Berlo, FAI Companion of Honour and Vice-President of the FAI Medico-Physiological Commission (CIMP) with decades of experience with pharmaceutical industry, and Kamila Chomanicova, Education Manager at the Slovak Anti-Doping Agency, a pharmacist as well as an 8-time Towerrunning Slovak national champion. These two guests provided insights from both the athlete and the medical points of view.

CIMP webinar: Human Factors Accident Classification System

The Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) is a tool that integrates available accident data in a taxonomy which facilitates extraction of critical information for the investigating and analysis of human error associated with accidents and incidents. This data identifies key issues critical to  the understanding of incident and accident occurrence and in turn their prevention. The research has shown that HFACS can be reliably used to identify general trends in the human factors associated with military and general aviation accidents. The majority of causal factors were attributed to the aircrew and the environment, with decidedly fewer associated with supervisory and organizational causes based on the study which was presented during the webinar.
